Dr. Zamri Omar, Associate Professor
Aeronautical Engineering Department, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM University), Malaysia

Biography: Dr. Zamri Omar received the Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Aeronautics) and Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1995 and 2003 respectively. He started his career as a Project Engineer with Lion Group and later with OSV Hazair Engineering. Few years working experience in the steel mill and offshore ventilation industry laid the foundation for him to start his career as an academician in 2000. Then he went to RMIT University Australia to further his study and graduated with PhD in Aerospace Engineering in 2010. He is currently an Associate Professor of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. His teaching, research and consultation experience span over fifteen years. Among of his research interests are in aircraft design and manufacturing, solar powered vehicle, unmanned aerial vehicle design and control. Particularly, he has a strong interest in aircraft design, build and test. In the university, he devotes much of his time on teaching and research activities related to aircraft design and manufacturing. He holds a Malaysia Private Pilot License and actively flying general aviation aircraft and microlight aircraft.

Topic: Industry 4.0: Challenges and Opportunities of Aerospace Manufacturing

Abstract: Industry 4.0 which promotes the computerization and innovation of manufacturing system will give significant impact in many aspects. The connectivity and interaction among components, machines and people in is expected to cause the manufacturing system to become 25% more efficient and faster. As the global demand for air transport is continuously increasing, in the next 20 years it is projected that 8 billion people will use air transport. The way how aerospace industry faces these demands is definitely to increase the manufacturing performance in terms of increasing product delivery rates. As the Industry 4.0 is revolutionizes, this gives the aerospace manufacturing sectors many challenges and as well as opportunities to grow further.
